Title: KURTOSIS ENHANCED DEMODULATION SPECTRUM FOR BEARING FAULT

Abstract: The vibration signals of rolling bearings exhibit second-order cyclostationary characteristics obviously. The cyclic power spectrum is a second-order cyclostationary statistics, which has better demodulation ability compared with classical envelope demodulation method. It can not only represent the evident fault feature of periodic impacts, but can also demodulate the periodic information of stationary signals which is an incipient fault feature. However, there are strong noise components in the early stage of fault development, which seriously interfere feature identification of cyclic power spectrum. To address the problem, the kurtosis enhanced demodulation method based on the cyclostationary analysis is proposed for the bearing fault diagnosis. Firstly, the fault feature frequency band is estimated by the spectral kurtosis method. Then the kurtosis enhanced demodulation spectrum is calculated by integrating the cyclic power density of fault feature band in the spectral frequency domain. The superiority and effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by the simulation and experimental analysis. The pitting bearing failure of inner race is successfully diagnosed by the proposed method.
