Title: Elastomeric Electrode and Casting Process for Manufacturing Multilayer Dielectric Elastomer Actuators

Abstract: Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) have been exploring for many applications, while their poor uniformity and short lifetime, which due great measure to the use of acrylics elastomer and carbon grease electrode coated by hand, limit their engineering application. In this paper, a novel fabrication process of stacked dielectric elastomer actuator (SDEA) is developed based on casting process and elastomeric electrode. The SDEA fabricated by this process enjoys the advantage of homogenous and reproducible properties as well as no performance degradation after one-year use. By taking into consideration the elastomeric electrode, a more accurate and applicable model of SDEA is established for the first time. The model is supported by the high correlation between the simulation results and experimental results. Besides, the model enables us to find the rules to optimize SDEA’s parameters. At last, the SDEA is used as an isolator in active vibration isolation system to verify the feasibility in dynamic application. And the experiment results show a great prospect for SDEA in such application.
