Dr. Chao Liu is a Lecturer in Digital Manufacturing at Aston University in Birmingham, UK. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2018. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering both from Northeastern University in China. Before joining Aston University, Dr. Liu worked as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University, UK. Dr. Liu serves as the guest editor for several special issues in high-impact international journals such as Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing and Sensors. His research interests include Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, Digital Twin, Machine Tools, Cyber-Physical Production Systems, Internet of Things, big data analytics, Machine Learning, Augmented Reality, Metal Additive Manufacturing, Ultra-Precision Machining, etc.

讲座简介：

In the era of Industry 4.0, manufacturing systems are expected to have a higher level of accessibility, connectivity, intelligence, adaptivity, and autonomy. With the rapid development of various smart manufacturing technologies, digitalisation and servitisation of manufacturing have become a new research trend. This presentation introduces Dr. Chao Liu’s research works in the field of smart manufacturing, including various concepts, frameworks, methods, prototypes, and case studies in different application scenarios. The major research topics include Cyber-Physical Machine Tools, smart metal additive manufacturing, smart ultra-precision machining, and Cyber-Physical Production Systems.
